How to delete a news item

A bit complicated, but simple too. There are four steps.

  1. Firstly, news items will eventually disappear from the home page on their own. This is because there is a limit to how many can appear on the home page. You set this limit in EO > Prefs > News Items > How many News Items should appear on the home page? If the site is really active, you probably won't want to delete too many news items. They'll simply get pushed off the page as other content replaces them.
  2. That said, if you really want to delete a news item, you have to do so in its Discussion Group (DG) message format. Everything on a Manila site is really a DG msg. So, to delete a News Item, simply go EO > Discuss. then find the title of the message you want to delete and click it open. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen, past the response text box, and you will see an Admin box.

    deleteMsgIMG:

    Click the Submit button
  3. You will see this administrative box:

    confirmBoxIMG:

    Click Yes.
  4. You will see this administrative box:

    undeleteBoxIMG:

Ignore it. Click the Home link in the left nav bar and you will see your home page without the newsItem that you deleted.
