In the busy-ness of a new semester, we’d like to remind you of our Opening Saturday Seminar on Saturday, August 23rd, from 9-12:00 (Salazar 2016). This is the first in a series of professional development opportunities related to the teaching of composition that we are planning for the year, activities that we hope will inspire you and give you the opportunity to share your practice with others in the department.
Keynote: Atheists, Cheerleaders, Caner Survivors, and the Just Plain Bored: Making the Transition from High School to College Writing. Presenter: Laury Fischer
Session 2: Exploring how Academic English Works: “Mining” Our Texts for Linguistic Gold. Presenter: Greta Vollmer
This opening event is free, but if you plan to attend, please register by going to our EventBrite link: http://tinyurl.com/qaedbma. Registration will help us plan for materials and snacks.
In addition to the planned presentations (see flyer for details), we will be inviting you to take an active role in other upcoming events, such as our Thursday Brown Bags, and monthly professional development seminars. More information about these activities will be provided at the event.
We are looking forward to a year full of discussion, collaboration, and inspiration!
The Lower Division Composition Committee,
Greta Vollmer, Cathy Kroll, Jess Hazlewood, Judith Friscia, and Jodi Simmons
