2014-2015 Professional Collaboration Network (PCN)

The Work of the Professional Collaboration Network

Teachers working with TeachersInsuring that BAWP’s PD programs are teacher driven and informed by classroom practice is one of our top priorities. BAWPs Professional Collaboration Network (PCN) will help support this effort. Begun during 2013-14 school year, the PCN – under the strong leadership of Michelle Baptiste – provided a supportive place for a number of TCs to try out and get feedback on both new and previously developed workshops.   These were important sessions as many of the workshops conducted in PCN sessions have already been successfully presented to teachers in a number of school districts – Solano County, Napa Unified, Antioch Unified, and San Francisco Unified.

For long-time consultants and presenters, we want to the PCN to be a place for you to try out a new presentation, or refine one you’ve already developed. For TC’s who have not yet had a chance to present, we’d like the PCN to be an opportunity for you to further develop ideas and presentations put forth at your summer institute.   For all of us, the collegial support at the center of the PCN is intended to help us work confidently with colleagues as we support continued growth as teachers of writing and teachers of content such as history and science.

Providing Support for Presenters

To support this work, each PCN presenter will get coaching before the workshop, feedback on the workshop from colleagues attending the session, and additional time to debrief and refine the workshop.   Our hope is that the PCN will become a key component of how BAWP supports and expands the number of TCs successfully conducting strong and thoughtful workshops as we work to meet the increasing number of professional development requests coming in from across the Bay Areas.

Each session will be an opportunity for

  • One TC to present and get feedback on his or her workshop
  • Participating TCs to come together as a collegial “response group” for the presenter
  • Participating TCs to reflect on their own practice as they learn from their colleagues’ workshops.
